Paper Organization

Where oh where to put all the paper...

We are paper crafters. We have a lot of paper. Lots of different sizes of paper. Lots of different colors and patterns of paper. We have a lot of paper. But how to sort it so we can find it at a moment's notice. And what to do with all those scraps??

An elegant solution...

When I first designed my scrap-land, I knew IKEA Kallax shelving was going to be a large part of keeping me organized because the openings are 13x13; perfect for scrapbook paper. But how to organize the paper within. After a few different methods, I settled on paper storage from a company called Stamp n Storage. The products are made in the USA and come ready to be finished. I chose the  Stamp n Storage IKEA paper holders . I purchased four of them which was sufficient to hold all my 12x12 paper. I also added on the paper dividers which help me to organize different patterns and colors of the paper. Now when I am looking for the perfect shade or pattern of paper, I can just go right over to the correct section, pull it out and find it.

Now about those scraps...

I am constantly cutting paper; larger pieces into smaller pieces. And what to do with all those smaller pieces? I have agonized over this for 15 years so much that I just gave up and literally put them all into one place and each time I just needed a small piece of paper, I would have to sort through everything. My expensive pieces were getting destroyed and unusable. After a lot of research, I decided on the Advantus Heavy Duty File Cart. This cart holds file folders large enough to hold 12x12 plastic folders which I have placed scraps from one shade of the rainbow. I would recommend two sets of Cropper Hopper file folders.  I also use it to hold my planning pages for scrapbooking. Planning pockets are great because I can place: photos, idea sheets, 12x12 paper, embellishments together until I am ready to assemble my page.

The Advantus FIle Cart holds everything 12x12 and fits neatly under my desk. I can roll it in and out as needed.

I store paper, planning pages, templates, stencils in the Advantus Cart. I would suggest getting two sets of file folders.

Paper scraps are oragnized by color in to these plastic snap folders. Each color has its own folder.

Stencils, planning pages and 12x12 mats can be stored here.

These are Cropper Hopper Planning Pages which are essentially a pocket that can hold stickers, photos, paper and embellishments.

Putting it all together...

Through a lot of trial and error and money wasted on paper organizational systems, this method works for me. I find that I save time: time from finding the right paper, time when I have to put away paper that I purchased at the store and time in locating that perfect scrap to complement my project.
